The recruiting process for Curie’s Elijah Joiner had a few ups and downs, with a few of the schools on his short list taking commitments from other prospects before the talented 6-2 guard had made up his mind.

But Tulsa’s persistence over the past three months paid off as the Golden Hurricane received a commitment from Joiner while on his official visit this past weekend.

“It was stressful,” Joiner admitted of the recruiting process. “God had a plan, however, and I just put my trust in God. It all worked out for me in the end. I’m excited to be heading to Tulsa.”

Joiner said he appreciated the recruiting job head coach Frank Haith and his staff did over the past three months.

“They really have been on me over the last three months,” says Joiner. “The coaching staff is amazing. I was able to build a good relationship with them in that time. Plus, the work coach Haith has done in the past stood out to me.”

Haith is in his third year at Tulsa after spending several years at both Missouri and Miami-Florida. The veteran coach was able to sell Joiner on how he will fit in at Tulsa and how he will be used in the backcourt.

“They play four out, one in and they like to play up-tempo, just like how we play at Curie,” says Joiner.

Joiner helped lead Curie to a state championship this past season and will be the catalyst for coach Mike Oliver’s team this winter.
